Power of Attorney signed (notarized + legalized) by an authorized officer of the applicant company.
A certified copy of the priority document (if applicable); per country, per patent.
Assignment from the inventors to the applicant (if applicable).

Patent application is filed
Pending documentation is filed within the prescribed terms
Preliminary/Formal Examination The PTO examines the application to determine whether all formal requirements have been met. If no Official Action is issued, the application is accepted for publication
Publication in the Official Gazette
Request for Substantive Examination (if applicable)
Substantive Examination performed by the PTO The PTO examiners verify if the application meets the legal requirements (Unity of Invention, Novelty, Industrial Applicability, Inventive Step)
If there are any objections, an office action is issued by the PTO and the Applicant is given a term for response
The local PTO will perform the final examination based on the reply filed by the Applicant and will then decide whether to grant or deny the application
