Preliminary Search
Applicants must first check whether their distinctive sign is available for registration. Some restrictions may apply to what qualifies as a registrable trademark. You can contact us for assistance with these restrictions, and we will conduct a free preliminary search.

Application Submission
Once the applicant submits the completed trademark application, the IP Registry of Nicaragua reviews it for errors or missing information and requests any necessary corrections.

Examination
The examination process begins with the formal review of the application. The IP Office verifies that the application meets all formal requirements.

Opposition
After approval of the formal examination, the IP Office publishes the application in the Nicaraguan Intellectual Property Gazette. Interested third parties have 30 working days from the last publication date to file an opposition and submit supporting evidence. This term may be extended once for an additional 15 business days if the party files a request and pays the official extension fee before the original opposition term expires.

Formal Examination
Once the opposition period ends, the examiner evaluates whether the application meets all necessary criteria, including correct applicant details, nationality, address, and proper classification of goods or services.

Final Review and Trademark Certificate
After completing all examinations and overcoming any objections or oppositions, the IP Office issues the final decision and grants the trademark certificate.
