In Lebanon, trademarks encompass all distinctive and graphically representable signs, including words, names, acronyms, letters, numbers, devices, emblems, holograms, combinations of colors, the three-dimensional form of a product or its packaging, sound marks, olfactory marks, and any combination of these signs. Single colors may not be protectable as trademarks unless combined with a design. Registrable trademark types in Lebanon include product marks, service marks (or both), collective marks, and trade names.

To file a trademark in Lebanon can be done personally; the form must contain at least the following:

  3. Power of Attorney:  signed by the applicant or an authorized officer of the applicant company and duly legalized up to the Lebanese Consulate or any other Arab Consulate.

4. Opposition Period:
If the application passes the initial review, it is published in the official gazette. During the 60-working-day opposition period, third parties may challenge the application and provide supporting evidence.

5. Final Examination:
Following the opposition phase, the examiner checks whether the application meets all legal criteria, including applicant information and proper classification of goods or services.

6. Registration Certificate:
If everything is in order, the office grants a trademark registration certificate. This provides the applicant with exclusive rights to use the mark in Lebanon for the designated goods or services.
